New role: Brisbane-based Health Consultant

We’re looking for a health-focused consultant with 5+ years of experience

As a Consultant at Beacon Strategies, you will work in a small, autonomous team to deliver high-quality consultancy projects for our current and future clients, primarily in the health sector.

Your combination of skills, experience and knowledge will strengthen the impact of our work and our team's capability. You will apply sector-leading, evidence-based ways of working and thinking to delight our clients and help them to achieve their organisational objectives.

With your passion for learning and tackling new problems, together with a ‘multiplayer’ mindset that supports teaming, you will work across a range of health-related topic areas — from children’s health to aged care, mental health, suicide prevention and everything in between.

Additionally, you’ll deliver projects in alignment with frameworks from disciplines such as health and social planning (e.g. needs assessments and regional plans), program and service design (e.g. co-designing innovative models of care), evaluation and review (e.g. evaluating the effectiveness of service models) and organisational strategy (e.g. strategic planning).

Working under the broad guidance of and supported by a pod leader and colleagues, your performance will lead to results in key areas of successful project execution, effective communication and collaboration with our clients and partners, and contributing to business development and internal change management goals.

While predominantly a Brisbane-based role, you’ll be able to travel when needed to complete work on-site with our clients or out in communities.

What skills should you bring?

Ideally, you’ll have at least a Bachelor-level degree in a related area as well as at least 5 years of professional experience in a relevant sector environment, such as health consulting, Primary Health Networks, local health networks (e.g. Hospital and Health Services, Local Health Districts) or health service providers (e.g. non-profit organisations).

The capabilities that you’ll both demonstrate and actively develop your skills in will include:

  • agile project delivery: planning and delivering high-quality and timely work in a way that is collaborative, enjoyable, delivers value and is efficient

  • consulting mindset: listening deeply and delivering high-quality, insightful and appropriately scaled work that meets the needs of key stakeholders

  • written communication: developing well-crafted written products that clearly and comprehensively articulate complex information

  • visual communication: delivering compelling advice through insightful slide decks that also look good

  • verbal communication: delivering verbal communication that is measured, persuasive and respectful

  • careful practice: delivering work in a way that anticipates trauma, advocates for equity, acknowledges power dynamics and cares for people.

In terms of deliverables, you’ll demonstrate your capability and hone your craft in the following:

  • situational analysis: rapidly acquiring and assessing the strategic and operational factors that influence any given project

  • meeting and workshop facilitation: effectively planning and delivering stakeholder engagement activities of all sizes with professionals and members of the public

  • capturing lived experiences: planning and engaging with people who have lived, or living experiences of the issues that we are working on

  • qualitative data analysis: analysing and visualising qualitative data to produce powerful and insightful reporting products

  • quantitative data analysis: analysing and visualising quantitative data to understand supply side (e.g. population data) and demand side (e.g. service utilisation) issues

  • evidence review: undertaking desktop research to understand ‘what works’ to enable the delivery of effective and contemporary advice.

At a discipline level (the frameworks you will use to guide your work), you’ll have a working knowledge of and a keen interest in developing your capability in health and social planning, service design, evaluation and review and organisational strategy.

You’ll resonate with and appreciate our organisation’s vision, mission, values and strategic direction (found here).

Above all, you’ll model the 10 principles that matter most to us outlined in our Org Code — these principles guide the attitudes, interactions and practices that we apply to how we do our work, communicate with each other, and serve our clients.
