First Nations Alcohol and Other Drugs Program Co-Design: Drug ARM

Status: Current - expected to be completed by June 30 2022

Client: Drug Arm

Background

Drug ARM is a specialist not-for-profit, non-government organisation that supports people, families and communities to achieve positive transformation through awareness, rehabilitation and management. Drug ARM provides compassion and specialist care throughout Queensland, New South Wales and South Australia through a range of programs and services that include education, outreach, prevention and treatment.

Drug Arm has engaged Beacon Strategies to deliver an insightful co-design process that results in the development of a First Nations alcohol and other drug treatment program that meets the needs of service users, program staff and the broader organisation.

Approach

Our project team is taking a structured approach to supporting Drug Arm to co-design meaningful adaptations to a number of existing programs so that they are more impactful for First Nations clients. Our approach consists of a number of key project phases, including:

Phase 1 - commencement: We will establish a productive and trusted working relationship with key Drug ARM staff as well as documenting our project approach through the development of a project agreement and detailed project schedule.

Phase 2 - situational analysis: We will gain a shared understanding of ‘current state’ service delivery through analysis of program documentation, service data, research and engagement with key staff.

Phase 3 - stakeholder engagement: We will engage with local consumers, local program staff and other key Drug ARM staff members to understand current experience and design the desired ‘future state’.

Phase 4 - model development: We will work collaboratively with the project steering group to understand diverse perspectives, prototype the ‘future state’ model and plan for implementation.

Phase 5 - Reporting and implementation: We will document a summary slide deck and supporting materials to prepare Drug Arm in piloting the ‘future state’ service model.

We look forward to letting you know more about the outcomes of this project. In the meantime head to https://beaconstrategies.net/service-design to check out our portfolio of service design projects and related blogs.
