Next breakfast: Friday, 25th October
Come along to hear from the CEO of Roses in the Ocean, the national organisation of lived experience in suicide.
Bronwen, the founder of Roses in the Ocean, will open up to us about the Roses journey so far, what they have learned and the way they have changed how they go about their work.
Bronwen is the founding CEO of Roses in the Ocean, the national lived experience of suicide organisation which was established in 2011 following the suicide of her brother Mark. First and foremost, Bronwen brings her personal lived experience of suicide to the table, while also striving to honour the vast perspectives of others she has been privileged to work with and walk alongside over many years.
Roses in the Ocean provides innovative, collaborative leadership across the suicide prevention system for people with lived experience of suicide, communities, sector organisations & government. They also deliver non-clinical peer-led community-based services and continuously explore and improve how they approach community consultation and co-design.

What are impact breakfasts?
Impact breakfasts are a vision for a more impactful social purpose sector by learning together to create more effective programs and services in Brisbane.
We define social purpose sectors as any organisation that aims or has the aim to create a better world.
The idea is that if we collaborate by combining our knowledge and support with one another, we can see improvements in the social purpose sectors in Brisbane.

We’ve compiled a list of questions and answers that we think you might find useful. If you can’t find what you are looking for here, or still have any questions then flick us a message using the form below and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible!

Due to the highly collaborative and network-building nature of the events, presentations will not be recorded.
The aim is to collaborate and talk about what we learn during the presentation. It is meant to spark conversation and unlock difficulties we might be experiencing ourselves in our line of work.
-
Yes! Because 'social purpose' sectors are so broad, impact breakfasts are suited to a wide range of people. Regardless of what sector you are working in you will likely learn something new, or meet someone interesting.
-
No, all impact presentations will be free! So, bring a friend or a colleague.
-
You will have 30 minutes to mingle, grab some food and drink before the presentation . The presentation then runs for 30 minutes. After each presentation, you will have 30 minutes to talk to the presenter, discuss the presentation, meet with other attendees, or just leave! It is entirely up to you how you use your time.
The space is for you to learn and grow and help others, in a way that suits you.
-
This is not a Beacon Strategies event per se. While Beacon will act as host to the events, we want impact breakfasts to become its own entity and develop with the help of the community that forms from it.
-
The continuity and community aspect of impact breakfasts is what makes it stand out.
As far as we know (we’re pretty sure at least), there isn’t a place for sector professionals to regularly meet up and experience casual learning opportunities, while also getting to meet new people or catch up with others.

After a lot of feedback over the years about commutes and family commitments, we decided to host these as a breakfast event so that they were open to everyone before the work day.
